Colin R. O'Leary introduced at St. John's University
Veterans of New York Founder Colin R. O'Leary was the keynote speaker at St. John's University in NYC for the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Dinner back on November 7th. The fundraising dinner is hosted annually by the Kappa Sigma fraternity at St. John's University. The fraternity hosts the event annually as a way to raise money for Veterans charities and non-profits.

O'Leary spoke to a crowd of about 200 at the event, which included students, faculty, staff, Veterans, and active duty military. His speech honored Veterans for their service and he also shared some professional advice that he developed in the military and civilian world.

The event included dinner, raffles for gift baskets, and a 50/50 raffel. It was a big success overall. Thousands of dollars were raised at the event to support Veterans organizations through Kappa Sigma's on-going Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign. You can watch the speech below on Youtube.

President Trump will help kick off the 100-year anniversary of the NYC Veterans Day Parade on Monday, November 11th, according to the New York Post. The President will give his remarks at the opening ceremony, and then lay a wreath at the Eternal Light Memorial at Madison Square Park. The NYC Veterans Day Parade is the largest Veterans Day parade in the country.

The parade is hosted annually by a non-profit called the United War Veterans Council. Each year the parade takes a massive amount of planning and cooperation between state, local, and national officials. The NYC Veterans Day Parade features Veterans groups, non-profits, military units, youth and civic groups, top high school bands from across America, vintage military vehicles, floats and more.

The New York Post reports that President Trump, a New York native, has helped raise and donate large sums of money to the NYC Veterans Day Parade organizers over the years. Back in 1985, President Trump made a $1 million donation to help create the Vietnam Veterans Memorial which is located in Lower Manhattan at 55 Water Street.

This year marks the 100th year anniversary of the NYC Veterans Day Parade, which first began back in 1919. Veterans Day was originally known as "Armistice Day." The day was first created to honor surviving Veterans of World War I. The name was eventually changed to "Veterans Day" in the 1950's, after the conflicts of World War II & the Korean War created a whole new generation of Veterans.
