This year marks the 100th year anniversary of the NYC Veterans Day Parade, which first began back in 1919. Veterans Day was originally known as "Armistice Day." The day was first created to honor surviving Veterans of World War I. The name was eventually changed to "Veterans Day" in the 1950's, after the conflicts of World War II & the Korean War created a whole new generation of Veterans. The parade now also includes Veterans from the Vietnam War and the conflicts in the Middle East.

The annual parade in NYC is the largest Veterans Day Parade in the entire country. The parade this year kicks off on Monday, November 11th at noon. The parade route will run north up Fifth Avenue from 26th Street to 48th Street.

The parade is run by a non-profit called the United War Veterans Council. Each year the parade takes a massive amount of planning and cooperation between state, local, and national officials. Each year the NYC Veterans Day Parade features Veterans groups, non-profits, military units, youth and civic groups, top high school bands from across America, vintage military vehicles, floats and more.

The United War Veterans Council is looking for more volunteers for the parade. If you are interested in volunteering for the parade this year, please go their website for information here. See flyer below for event details.
